Introduction To ColdFusion 9 ORM

I have just discovered a fantastic video introduction to ORM using ColdFusion 9 by Ray Camden. The video is available at this web address: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/max-2009-develop/introduction-to-coldfusion-orm/.

For those who do not know much about ORM or what it can do, I strongly recommend that you check it out. ORM, or Object Relational Mapping, is a new feature in ColdFusion 9 and allows you to interact with the database in a way that fits your application, rather than the traditional method of building an application to suit the database. ColdFusion's implementation of ORM is based upon Hibernate.

The code samples that Ray uses in the video presentation are available to download from this resource: http://slidesix.com/view/Introduction-to-ORM-in-ColdFusion-9. I have only recently been introduced to ORM and so have much to learn. The prospect of not having to endlessly write SQL queries for basic crud operations sounds very appealing, however, and so I will be exploring this subject in more depth over the coming weeks and months.

Pentax Photo Gallery - New Entry

My photographic submissions to the Pentax Photo Gallery are on something of a roll at the moment; I have just had another image accepted into the gallery taking my total number of images in the gallery to three.

This image was taken in early January 2010 at Pentre Ifan, an ancient burial chamber sited in the Preseli Hills in northern Pembrokeshire. It was a beautiful crisp and sunny day following a period of snowfall and consequently the conditions were perfect for some mid-winter photography. Several other visitors to the site had left a trail of footprints in the snow, but fortunately, I was able to find a viewpoint that offered an expanse of virgin snow in the foreground.

The photo can be viewed at full size either on my own gallery page or at the Pentax Photo Gallery website.

Recently I mentioned that I had launched a couple of new websites. Well, you add another to that list as I have just launched a new website about the Ionian island of Corfu in Greece.

I'll blog more soon about this site and the development process behind it as well as finally blogging details about the two sites that I launched prior to Christmas. Stay tuned for more info...

Pentax Photo Gallery Image Acceptance

I have today had an image accepted into the Pentax Photo Gallery. The image, taken at Tenby harbour at dusk before Christmas, was one of two that I had recently submitted for consideration. Unfortunately, the second image was rejected. I now have two images in the gallery.

To mark the fact that I now have multiple images in the gallery, I have downloaded a Pentax Photo Gallery badge (as shown below) for use on this site and on my Flickr profile.

New Gallery Added

I have added a new photo gallery to the site: Tenby At Dusk In December.

This gallery showcases a collection of photos that are the result of a photographic trip I took into Tenby one cold evening in December 2009. Most people who have visited Tenby will recognise the vistas in these photos even though most of these scenes are usually photographed in the summertime when the harbour is full of boats, the streets are lined with tourists and the sun is shining. I decided to combine a desire to try my hand at dusk photography with the idea of capturing one of the most photographed towns in Wales in literally a new light.

I hope you like them.

Gallery Updated

I have updated the Pentax Photo Gallery page here on this website. This gallery contains all of the images that I have submitted thus far to the official Pentax Photo Gallery.

Sadly, most of the images were rejected, however this only serves to fire my determination to succeed all the more. I have spent several hours over this wet and miserable November compiling a list of locations and subjects that I have in mind as potential photo opportunites. As soon as the weather and my workload allows, I will be out there trying even harder to achieve the necessary standard.

Check out the new images here.

I will blog more on the new sites in a day or two when I find chance to sit down and compose a blog entry that will do them justice.

In the mean time, please bear with me - I going as fast as I can!
